Can Garcinia Cambogia Really help You Lose Weight? Brought to you by
You’ve probably heard about Garcinia Cambogia and its potential to affect weight loss. But what is Garcinia Cambogia and can it really help you lose weight?
Garcinia Cambogia is a tropical fruit with an acidic make-up similar to that of oranges and lemons. The fruit’s active ingredient, hyroxycitric acid (HCA) is found in its rind. Studies have shown that this substance blocks the body’s fat-making enzyme citrate lyase and helps increase serotonin levels which not only boost your mood, but also help to suppress the appetite.
Some trials testing the weight loss effects of Garcinia Cambogia have yielded some unimpressive results, such as the study published in the Journal of Obesity, where subjects who took the Garcinia Cambogia lost two pounds more than the subjects who didn’t take it.
However there have been other studies such as the one led by Dr. Harry Preuss of Georgetown University who administered the dosage of Garcinia Cambogia with calcium and potassium salts in order to enhance the body’s ability to absorb the active ingredient HCA. In his study, the group that was given this the Garcinia Cambogia mixed with calcium and potassium (and were put on the same diet and exercise program as the placebo group) lost an average of 12 pounds whereas the placebo group only lost an average of three pounds.
Garcinia Cambogia can affect weight loss if taken in the right dosage and with the right compounds (calcium and potassium as well as magnesium) to help the body with its absorption.
Garcinia Cambogia may pose a health risk if you are taking medication for asthma, diabetes, anemia, pain medication, psychiatric prescriptions, blood thinners and medications to control cholesterol. If you’re taking medication for any of these conditions, it’s best to check with your doctor before taking supplements containing Garcinia Cambogia.
